Several years ago I witnessed the positive effects that research can have. Even though the research project was very small scale, it made a big impact on the local community.
About the research project:
Topic: Do enough people use the Children's Books Section in the Library to purchase more books?
Participants: Early Childhood Education College students, Parents & Children from the community.
Purpose: Determine how much usage the Children's Books Section in the library is getting, and present results.
Results: Researchers found that many people in the community used the children's books section, and that most of those people wished there were more books to choose from.
I believe this research project was a success. Awareness was raised about the lack of variety in the Children's Books Section. People were inspired to donate books and funds to the Library for new books. The Children's Books Section nearly double in size within a year of the study. This research project effected the children in the community by providing an increase in children's books in the local community.
What a wonderful project! Encouraging children to read and explore through literature is great. I do not believe a child can ever have enough books and find new ways to learn about what books are available sounds promising for any community.
ReplyDeleteAngela,
DeleteI like that you posted about literacy. I cannot stress enough to parents how important it is to introduce their child to books/reading. However, I can never spark their interest in purchasing books from the Scholastic Book Orders. I look forward to the catalogs each month as many of the books help me teach concepts to my preschoolers. Thank you for posting on such an important topic in early childhood.
Angela,
ReplyDeleteI liked your blog this week and I found it very interesting. I think a lot of people do use the children's library, and many like myself, tend to buy a lot of books because I have such a busy schedule, and having the books at home make it nice. I must admit, that there is something special about being in the library setting with my daughter when I can, and I do plan to do more of that this summer.
Angela,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is great to read. I think having an example of a small research project shows that any amount of research can be of great benefit. Literacy is an important issue and the research showed that parents are reading to their children and ended up bringing more books to the library.
